JDC Community Foundation represents our commitment to filling needs through strategic partnerships, connection to resources, and increased community engagement across Jeff Davis County and the Davis Mountains region. We're building a flexible, responsive organization for this special place we call home.
Our work has grown over the past year. Providing free school lunches to Fort Davis ISD students remains our core project, but we've also given free laptop computers to every student household in Jeff Davis County, partnered with AARP to distribute HomeFit safety kits to seniors, and been selected to host a fully funded AmeriCorps American Connection Corps Community Technology Coordinator.
JDC Community Foundation began as a project of the Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library, a bookmobile and mobile social services connector. In 2023 it was spun off to become its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Mobile Comunidad. As our mission and services evolved, in 2026 the board approved the transition to a new name, JDC Community Foundation, to better reflect our mission of service.
Hot, healthy, scratch-cooked meals for Fort Davis ISD students, currently delivered twice a week at each campus. About 8 in 10 elementary students choose to eat with us, and a lot of kids come back for seconds. Sometimes thirds.
Our vision is to meet the need for hot lunches today and be the bridge partner, working with our local community, the Region 18 ESC, and the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty, to help the district stand up its own program and join the National School Lunch Program, so the school children of Fort Davis never have to wonder if they'll have lunch.

Every student household in Jeff Davis County received a free laptop computer through our distribution program in partnership with AT&T and Human-I-T. Starting this fall, our AmeriCorps American Connection Corps Community Technology Coordinator will build on that work, helping residents get connected and learn how technology can connect us to resources and each other.
Our board president co-leads the Upper Rio Grande Regional Broadband Task Force as Jeff Davis County's Broadband and Legislative Liaison, and we work with the Texas Broadband Development Office to make sure one of the most underserved regions in the United States isn't left behind when broadband infrastructure is deployed across Texas. Out here, broadband isn't a luxury. It's how kids do homework, how businesses reach customers, and how neighbors reach a doctor.
In partnership with AARP, we distributed HomeFit safety kits to seniors across the county, practical tools that help older neighbors stay safe and independent in their own homes.
Jeff Davis County is big, beautiful, remote, and short on resources. The distances are long, the tax base is small, and the services most towns take for granted are a long drive away. That's exactly why this work matters here.
